That is why it was probably a stupid question, because logic would seem to dictate that you obviously need a modem.
When I started thinking about it though, if you can make phone calls with VOIP why couldn't you fax a document with that same technology? I wouldn't be hooking my fax machine up to the server, I would be using the Fax service in Windows to fax a file such as a pdf. A little research during lunch today had led me to believe that T.38 might be what I am looking for here, but I have had no time to check it out.
If what I am suggesting is totally impossible, or ridiculous to even attempt then I can accept that. It really annoys me that to fax something right now, I need to print it up and fax it. When 9/10 times I would not need to print anything or the only thing I would need to actually print is the page I would need to sign (the reason most people still require you to fax).
