The issue I seem to be having is that if I am expected to give up my seat to every able bodied female I will be giving up my seat every single day. If I am giving up my seat every day I would not take the train as the only benefit it provides me is the ability to relax and read during my commute.

I am not sure where I fall on this subject but it's interesting to see that people are quite opinionated on the subject. I disagree on the pansy comments. I don't think people are grasping the idea that this isn't just a one time commute and it has nothing to do with me not being able to stand. I am fully aware that as a youngish gentleman I am able to stand, it comes to whether I should feel obligated to by someone who is also able to stand simply because they are older than me and a woman.

If she had asked in a kind manner without any sort of presumption of me giving up my seat I would have gladly got up.

Just to clear things up a little, this was near Brentwood I believe and at the time I had not even looked up from my book at the time and did not notice her until she asked me for my seat.
