Exactly. Especially if you are trying to hold on to more than one at a time. Often have to count on some sense of self preservation in my 4 year old, when I have him and his 2 year old brother out some where.
Leashes are not the answer, imo, I'd assume you'd just make your child even more clueless about running into traffic or what not when he inevitably is without one.
You can't 100% protect your kids, and I'd be surprised if leashed children were statistically any less likely to die than free roaming kids. How many kids have died this way in Calgary over the life of the Ctrain? I'd guess they are about 100x more likely to die every time they get in a car vs every time they are out without a leash.
