All we know at this point is that the Kinect at E3 was unusable sitting down. Microsoft is claiming that it will be in time for release, but I don't take any promises in the gaming industry to heart anymore.
Even so, all Microsoft has said is that it will work sitting down for the menu navigation and entertainment aspect. So no gaming sitting down. That means Forza standing in the middle of your living room. That means no Kinect + controller applications to core games.

you mean that it will work exactly like the Sony Move or the Nintendo remotes? terrible. imagine the sheer horribleness of not being able to do all of that motion gaming while sitting on the couch. especially the dancing and fitness. and sports. and everything else that so far has been advertised as requiring kinect. i can't believe it. how can we as consumers support a thing like that. and entertainment like movies and navigation while sitting down? and regular controller games as well...sitting down. its unfathomable to me that M$ announces and demos a product a full 5 months prior to launch and it isn't 100% ready to sell today.
m$ contacted and spun? okay...if you yourself want to put a little english on the article. i don't disagree with your comment that the article was not definitive, however how does that qualify as m$ spinning? it clearly states that some games will play sitting down and some will require standing up, and that it will play entertainment stuff sitting down. tbqh, it will or it won't. then we will see spin.
i'm no m$ fanboy, owning multiple game platforms including 360 and the wii, as well as a former owner of previous generations of consoles. i preordered rockband and guitar hero and i will be preordering the kinect. i will not be preordering the move nor anything nintendo based upon what i saw at E3.
if people don't like the first iteration of something, and i completely understand that, then they shouldn't buy it. especially technology. maybe m$ never fixes the stand up/sit down debate, in which case they will know by their sales whether or not it makes a difference. its a free market. i think that a possible real failure for M$ is in the game bundling and the price of that package. my frustration with E3 was in not knowing what the price or bundles will be (having read numerous rumours), however if it is too expensive for too little bundle then i will wait (cancelling my preorder first).
i think the technology is extremely cool and i can't wait to get my hands on the first iteration in November when we will know the price and the bundling. and no, i don't plan on sitting on the couch for action gaming.
