She didn't follow you without reason. She saw that you were struggling with the car and stalling it, thus indicating that it may not have been your car and so potentially stolen. She runs the plates and they come out wrong, another flag for a possible stolen car. You're lucky you didn't get escorted out the car with your hands up.
