How can anyone buy a pet from a "pet shop"? A gold fish? Perhaps. A hamster, maybe. Other than that, I see no reason for these businesses to reside except to help owners maintain their pets.

Shops like these are selling "pets" for profit. Period. No better breeding, no better likeliness that they have a good personality. Good luck on THAT draw.

The best "pet" I have seen in the last decade or so came from the SPCA... a German Shepard pup. My buddy got him as a puppy, named him "Molson" and I have to admit, I have never EVER seen a better dog in my life. There are too many situations to describe. Molson was just the ultimate dog. Unfortunately he died a couple years ago.

Jordon, getting a pet from a shop like Petland won't ensure in any way that you get a better pet, or that you love him/her more, nor he/she loves you less.

Strongly recommend you look at all the options. Petland is the type of company that is in the grey area between the "free" ones or the Streetcats ones versus going out and finding a true breeder where you even pay more, but have that much more chance of finding your "perfect" cat.

Personally, I think that you would not be any better ahead from buying a pet shop boy from going to Streetcats or any other such organization (or getting a free pet from ads). Humanitarian wise, the latter option even adds more credence to go that route.
