Well, with their recent recalls, apparently they're not such a good product. Who would've thought you'd get gas pedal problems AFTER you add drive-by-wire, which would, in theory, give you the ability to cut the throttle upon application of the brake, with an easy bit of code in the software. Toyota didn't do that. If they did, they'd still need to recall the pedals, but it could've saved lives, and it would save them a lot of lawsuits, and help them retain their previously good reputation.

As far as just buying any "good product that does the job", I just don't understand that mentality. I know a ton of "non car-people", who actually really enjoy their cars. You should never say "Toyota's good enough". You should always shop around, and find something that suits you best. That sort of mentality is what helps create monopolies. Same thing with phones. The iPhone has a nice hold on the smartphone market, and I'm sure there are a ton of people who would shop around, and still go with the iPhone. The iPhone is at least trendy...Toyotas have been boring for years.
