So, help me in my thinking. I'm looking at the base 21.5" iMac. I've applied for university, but haven't got back any acceptance yet, If I'm not accepted, technically, I wouldn't qualify for the education discount.

The education discount on the base iMac is $50, plus $60 savings on applecare (I think I'll get it), plus right now, get a iPod touch free (which I'd sell). Is there also a discount on iWork?

For the refurbished option, only the step up 21.5" is available, at a $250 dollar discount. I wouldn't get any discount on Applecare.

I don't really think I need the upgrade to the step up iMac.

I'm also looking about getting a new printer as well - taking advantage of the $100 mail in rebate in you buy a mac and a printer together. Is this option available if you buy a refurbished mac or a mac with an education discount? If I can do it, what is a good value printer to get from the apple store?

What works out to be the best value?

Refurbished iMac or

Education discount? How does the education discount work? Do I have to show proof of education status?
