I have painted a couple guitars (Should be the same) with Spray bombs and they have turned out really good and seem to be lasting.
I also used the matching CC for the paint I am using. Works fine.
Make sure the primer, paint, and CC are all compatible, I grabbed the wrong CC can and once I sprayed it made a mess. I had to sand down and do it again.
Make sure to give it a good sand like H&L said.
edit: Oh and to answer your questions
- Is there a specific type of paint that I should look for?
Not really, I just use the cheap krylon stuff from Crappy tire. Cause it has a matching primer, paint and CC that all work well together.
- Does the covering on my drum shells need to have a specific type of finish, or any sort of criteria it has to meet before I paint it?
Scuffed to give it something to grab onto. Dont sand down to the wood, cause then you will get into the sealer
- Should I sand the finish off of the shells before I paint them?
Just enough to give the paint something to hold onto
Let me dig around for some of my projects....
