Any word on whether Canadian broadcasters will be able to do this? I want to watch the world cup in 3D. I have a 3D ready TV, but the input format my TV requires doesn't match the output format from my PVR. One company sells a converter (which is presumably HDCP compliant) but it detects your TVs brand is since mine is a different brand it won't work. Basically, the only way for me to watch content I've paid for on hardware I've paid for is to use the analog hole, record it on my computer from the composite outputs, and play it back from my computer (which can output any format). It would really grind my gears if they block the composite out on my cable box... if that's the case then my only hope is that someone uploads them to the world.
Also, if it were truly a free market I'd have access to DirectTV and ESPN3D, so I'd know I'll be getting the broadcasts.
