Their donuts used to be made in house and weren't bad at all but now they're made in a factory and shipped in. They can't even bake muffins from premade batter anyone, as those are sent in to each store almost fully cooked and are just heated up a bit before they're put on the shelf. The whole company has become extremely lazy in it's food production and it really shows in their product. I didn't mind their stuff back in the day, but it just tastes like plasticky crap nowadays.

They haven't been lazy, they have broadened their horizon. They have expanded massively.
Read a book on franchising a company, then maybe you'll get it.
Note: I agree with your point about fresher = better tasting, but it simply isn't possible.
