Ive had 20% tint on my front windows for about 5 years now and I've had 1 ticket. That was probably 3 years ago. You just need to be really careful about pulling up beside cops.
And as previously stated, there is not tint allowed on any of the front windows. ie defer window, passenger window or windshield.
No factory vehicle comes wih front tinted windows that I am aware of. Rear windows are often tinted and this is legal whether it's a factor option or aftermarket.
Shops will install tint on front windows because it is not illegal to install, rather it is illegal to operate a motor vechicle wih tinted windows. Most of the time the tint shop will make you aware it is illegal and ask you if you still want to do it.
