He has a book to promote...He's also cleaned himself up (at least relatively anyway) and realizes he needs to set himself up for the future. He might as well cash in now. His hockey career is done and in ten years everyone will have forgotten about him.
Is this really such a bad thing. The prize money goes to charity. Not my cup of tea, but many seem to enjoy the show and noone is forcing you to watch.
