I think they sensationalized it a bit but the point is there is more to see than what's on the surface to spin a pun.
I'm a diver and as such I consider myself a "friend of the ocean". This event is going to do massive amounts of damage to the ecosystem and F things up pretty badly for who knows how long.
However, I recognize our society needs oil and this is a reserve we've tapped into. I also recognize in all the years of gulf drilling this event is unprecedented. As such I want the drilling companies to look at their practices and to learn from this event to attempt to prevent it from occurring in the future.
I don't believe anyone - BP included - has claimed the dispersant will magically clean up the oil. The theory is it should oddly enough disperse the oil so it's not a massive slick along the top of the ocean. I don't believe they ever planned to somehow hoover it all up and get back to nice clean ocean.
I do have to laugh at the reporters comment about "risky and dangerous dive" or whatever it was he said. That dive was not risky in the slightest.
