Why do Chinese (others as well) pick English names the can't pronounce? Like Rick.
Also why do call themselves in the child version, like Rickie, Tommy etc.

My grandmother has a hard time pronouncing my name, and my dad doesn't exactly pronounce my name right either. I think it's really preference. Sure, my dad can't quite pronounce my name, but the fact that he likes the name is the main reason why he picked it. I suspect lots of chinese folks just simply enjoy the name and choose it in spite of not being able to pronounce it.
