Its almost as if the writers are asking the viewers to do what Desmond was trying to get the characters to do; let go.
For six seasons we have been amazed and infuriated with the cliffhangers and questions that arose from the show. While they did answer a number of the questions many more are left unanswered.
It seems they are asking the viewers to see that it is pointless to try and understand everything that goes on in this world. Or more pointedly, it is silly to try and put together everything that happened on the island. It is impossible to know everything. What is important is how we form relationships, and grow within those relationships. Also how we function in this crazy world that we live in. That is what is important.
It goes back to the original confrontation between Jack and Locke. Jack is a man of science, Locke is a man of Faith.
Some probably feel it is a huge cop-out of a finale and part of me agrees, I still have tons of questions.
But part of me thinks that it is a great way to end such a mysterious and at times messy series. I supposed they could have wrapped it up in one nice and neat little package and we would have said "Ohhh I get it, cool" and thats it. Instead it still leaves us thinking and wondering. Different people are interpreting it in different ways and there is nothing wrong with that. People will probably still talk about the series years down the road, if for nothing else that means it was a success.
