How can anyone expect things to change when these companies are run by the same old fuddy-duddy old men playing musical chairs?
While management is a big issue, I think the only way a company like GM can come back strong is to cut off their unions...and that's only really going to happen if they go under (for realsies though). After hearing this story from This American Life about NUMMI (a GM/Toyota venture) and how ridiculous things got at this company, I don't feel quite so sorry about for anyone who'd lose their job. Here's an excerpt, but I encourage anyone interested in these matters to listen to the full one hour show.
