My only theory is that this is a very early foreshadowing of the alternate reality. Maybe i just missed something. Anyone have any thoughts?

Funny thing I was thinking exactly of the same episode, an example how they can't possibly explain everything. Anyway, the episode name is Ji Yeon (season 4), Jin buys a panda in the flashback, but its not for Sun. Sun is shown in the same episode in a flash forward. She's pregnant, gives birth, then Hurley visits her and they all go see Jin's tombstone.
