The killer combination on the PC is Slysoft AnyDVD with Handbrake.

AnyDVD decrypts your DVD on the fly - no more time wasted ripping to the hard drive before encryption, just point Handbrake directly at the TS_VIDEO folder and have at it. If you are batching up a bunch of encodes and want to copy it to your hard drive, just drag and drop in Windows Explorer - there’s no interface to deal with, it just works in the background invisibly.

Highly, highly, highly recommended. Between myself and a neighbour, who never buys software until he saw this thing in action, we’ve ripped hundreds and hundreds of DVD’s with no issues. They also update the app super-often to keep up with evolving b@stardizations of the DVD format.
