WE know that Beckman had that meeting with a shadowy person when she begged to warn the team what was coming.
We know Fulcrum was a renegade offshoot of the CIA who didn't believe that they could fight the war on terror using traditional means, and they had to use tools like the Intersect, thats why they wanted it.
We know that Fulcrum is a subset of the Ring, its been mentioned before.
I actually have a theory that the Ring is in fact a renegade group thats threaded throughout the CIA, the NSA and the military, thats why we see Casey's old special ops boss, and Casey's identity was so easily changed.
Fulcrum agents saw themselves as patriots trying to save America from its own weaknesses. Basically any path to victory.
But I'm not convinced that Beckman and the CIA are neccessarily on the side of angels here. There's too much going on in the background.
