The other day, I got into my car and it started up with the turn of a key. Man, I hate that. Call me old-fashioned, but there was just something pure about the good, honest, hard work that went into manually cranking the engine up with the old hand cranks.
I wrote Ford a letter (email, shmemail) last week to let them know that I am not impressed with their decision to move on from hand-cranked engines. It's a complete outrage.
Also, while we're at it... I was at my sister's house yesterday and we were in the middle of conversing about my love of hand-cranked engines, and just before I got to the good part (you know, the part where I really get "wound up"), we were interrupted by this God-awful ringing noise. Apparently, it was this "telephone" device. I'm telling you, I don't know who came up with that nonsense, but doesn't anyone just use tin cans and a string anymore? That was solid technology. If the string broke, you just cut off another. Tin can got dented? Eat some soup, and then you have a new one. They just don't make things like that anymore...
