I get the impression that they hit the help button, but I'm not sure if it was a case of getting little response. I believe protocol is for operator to wait until they get to the next station and then they investigate the problem in person. Since they were between stations, the operator had to wait until they got to 8th Street West Station, at which point he got out of the cab and investigated the incident. That's how I understand it anyway.
