It looks bad on the dealership not to offer to cover at least part if not all of the replacement rim. Poor customer relations - could backfire if you expose the dealership and state why you will never buy from them again to all your friends and family. The dealership risks spending tens of thousands on advertising just to repair the damage some bad word of mouth can do.
If the dealer won't help you - tell everyone you know why they suck. Hell you could post the dealership name on the forums - as long as you tell the truth.

The world is a different place than it was 10 years ago, 20 years and more. It used to be that the customer was always right. Now that does not hold true anymore. Then you factor in that there seems to be more and more jerks out there. Add it all up and yes, I am saying that it is worse than it used to be.
I actually don't believe that the customer is always right. There are just too many people who try to take advantage of that.
