When I was nine-ish I didn't know how to swim all too well. I decided to take my life jacket off, cause I though after an hour of jumping off the diving board that swimming was easy. It wasn't. I think I got to the side of the pool, finally, by the time the lifeguard got off the phone with his girlfriend to adress the lunatic pounding on the viewing glass. That lunatic was my dad, watching his son drown...

I have a near death C-Train story as well. When I used to work at the Chinook Sport Chek back when it was the converted Safeway, my parents would drop me off at North Hill C-Train Station. We lived in Thorncliffe at the time. I'd bring a book, or music, or something for the ride. I miss my train, I'm late for work...

I see the train already stopped at the station by the time we pull into the parking lot. I look both was to cross the street. Safe. Run accross the street. I hear the C-Train engine, so I bolt across the tracks. Get in the C-Train and sit down.

Thats when I look out the window and see the train heading in the other direction, which wasn't there before. Give it one of those 'huh?' moments, then think about the situation. I call my mom's cell phone, and ask "Did I almost get hit by that train?". She said if I ever pulled a 'stunt' like that again, she'd throw me in front of a moving train.

I guess I was inches away from the front of the incoming C-Train.
