I would agree that he's a guy likely isn't going to be offered a starting gig. But I think think that if he was willing to be a backup and willing to help mentor a young starting QB that NFL teams would be interested and backup QB's still make a pretty good wage. It's up to him if he wants that though, he doesn't strike me as a guy who needs to work though and he is 40 years old now.
The Raiders cut him in favor of JaMarcus. Had the Raiders gone with Garcia instead, I think they would have had a decent shot at 8-8.

If Alex Smith struggles mightily in the preseason/first few weeks of the regular season, I could see the 49ers signing him to get through the season competitive and then enter the 2011-12 season with a new franchise QB in tow.
