I'm not taking a shot at the original poster. But I know that in a city like Calgary people aren't going to go over to their neighbors to ask them to turn down the damn music, and I don't blame them after reading some posts here.

I would go talk to my neighbour. If they are a real chicken poop they will deny they complained, but if they admit it, they will likely be intimidated (since they obviously have no balls) and I can imagine it would be pretty easy to get them agree to a time

If you playing at 5:00 PM and people are bitching I wouldn't do anything about it. I'd keep doing it, and then look to see if any neighbors are watching than go yell at them.

Honestly, if people are bitching at 5:00PM for noise, they have to be the most prickish person imaginable.
This isn't the 50's where people talk to their neighbors anymore, its the sad fact of modern society.

And how do you know that one of your neighbors doesn't work an unusual shift, or doesn't have another reason why noise at that time is an intrusion.

As has been stated drums are loud, maybe some people don't like bashing percussion when they're having dinner, or watching the news. They have every bit as much of a right to peace and quiet.

Knocking on peoples doors and asking them if they have problems with you drumming probably isn't a great tact unless its handled properly. Watching for someone watching you and marching over to yell at them is ridiculous.

Find a way to insulate the sound. Don't continue to aggravate the situation by pounding away because all that's going to happen is that they're going to complain again and your going to start paying fines.

To be honest drumming is different from car sounds and different from mowing lawns, so in a lot of ways openly drumming loudly is probably an annoyance to a lot of people.

To be honest, my neighbor plays the worst music in the world at spinal tap level 11, now I'm different in a lot of ways because I don't intimidate easily and I'm old school so I'll politely tell him to turn it down and he mostly listens.

But if you have a neighbor who's a woman, or elderly or timid they're not going to do that. But they have the right to peace and quiet.

find a way to muffle the sound, or move the drums into a quieter area, because to be honest you're the one causing the disruption here, not your neighbors.
