Hey hey hey, this isn't the norm for hazing. Ours involved some "gross" stuff, (think Fear Factor gross) fueled by enormous amounts of alcohol, some hair going missing, stuff like that. A certain amount of hazing is fine and should be expected once you get to a certain level of a sport, but all within reason. I don't think they need to banish hazing, the coaches need to step in and set some limits. I'm only speaking from my experience, but these guys are a very bizarre exception to the rule.
In the end, the rookie party really helps the team bond as an entire unit.
