“Welcome Home,” the debut video off MGMT’s second album, Congratulations (out Tuesday), is a trippy portrait vividly illustrating the band’s trademark synthesized-rock psychadelia. MGMT’s parade of absurdity mirrors its ironic lyrics and playful instrumentals. It’s kind of like a Halloween-themed family reunion at the Pentagon, complete with Hillary Clinton helmet-hair, eye patches and old people doing the Electric Slide. The track itself is so dance-worthy, it makes you want to join them.
MGMT is scheduled to perform on Saturday Night Live on April 24 and Late Show With David Letterman on May 11 for the promotion of their new album.

If you're coming to the second MGMT album because you loved "Time to Pretend", "Kids", and "Electric Feel", there's the door. No such moments exist on Congratulations. Hell, there aren't even failed attempts at replicating those songs here. This time out, MGMT aren't crafting pop; they're Creating Art. The problem is that many of the half-million or so people who bought their debut, Oracular Spectacular, just want a couple catchy-as-, ear-candy singles to blast in their cars or put on with their friends.

Also, the John Butler Trio just released "April Uprising." Have not had a chance to listen to it yet but I love JBT so I'm hoping for good things.
