Okay, do you know the details of the contract? Do you even know where the problematic NFL rookie contracts tend to occur, it's always the top 10 picks and top 5 that are the big issue for NFL teams. Hence why most teams outside of the top 10 will not move up unless it's a QB, Tackle, or Pass Rusher that they absolutely want. They know that it's going to cost them huge money.

The way most rookie contracts are structured the big money gets paid out in the first 3 years and the teams usually get a good deal on a productive player in years 4 and 5. Plus the guys who get the money in the NFL are the top 10 picks...Holmes was a 25 overall selection, his contract was a 5 year deal for just over 8 million when it was signed.

his salary is slated to be 755k next year. So I call BS and don't believe you one bit. Sure the Steelers are mad they can't use him for 4 games, he wouldn't get that suspension if there had not been a lot of problems with his off field conduct!

Second you're no longer paying for potential here, the guy is a 26 year old receiver who just had 1248 receiving yards last year and was a Superbowl MVP the year before. The Steelers are no longer a grind it out on the ground team, they throw the ball 35+ times a game, and he was their number one target. Based on his on field production this is a guy who should be getting paid.

I personally think you are pretty dead wrong here and that your assumption that it's because they didn't want to drop huge money on him is pretty funny. They paid Hines Ward in the past and if Holmes didn't have his off field problems they would have paid him.
