Apparently they had problems, especially at Shawnessy where the C-Train line ends, with drunk/homeless people wandering into the store in the middle of the night. One day, a woman working in the luggage department came into work and found a bunch of suitcases arranged in a crude fort. She assumed that the night staff had been screwing around, so she went to put the suitcases back on the shelf and found a guy sleeping inside and freaked out.
I guess it's a cute romantic comedy when Natalie Portman lives in a Walmart store, not so much when it's a homeless dude in Calgary.

I think that was more a result of the job market we've had over the last few years. Places were having a hard enough time finding staff who would work during the day let alone overnight.
