Oh for sure, I used to develop multiplayer location based games for handsets as well and battery was always the killer.

Nice. Do you hash or encrypt the data from the handset? The games I did we didn't have to worry about that much since most handsets didn't have wifi, but now it's much more prevalent. When I got your game and started playing with it a bit I thought if the data stream is unencrypted it might be easy to figure out the protocol and write something to send messages to your server moving my location around from home
