I'm interested in where this thread goes once more people get an iPad, my mom called me up saying she wants one...sigh.
I told her that I wouldn't be able to help her or give her any tech support if she bought one because Apple locks down everything, locks out even rudimentary processes, and basically controls every feature of this thing and controls a lot of the content you can access, buy, or transfer to it through all of their own channels. I guess I have been spoiled by PCs for too long that the idea of consumer electronics where I cannot change all the software to whatever I want or the freedom to use any device that I want or put on any format file that I want or expect home brew files to work is just crazy.
If I could accept that this is just as a portable internet browser, TV viewer (in which I need to pay for content), photo album holder, or ebook reader I suppose it would be okay, but I keep thinking of it as a computer. Then again, I can't think of a PSP or DS as just videogame consoles either, I couldn't bear the thought of using those as intended either.
