The theory of the multiverse is that yes a universe exists for every possible outcome of a decision but there is a preferred path and it will course correct. Because this universe is unnatural and was created by a quantum event, something will happen to course correct and the two universes will merge.

Looks like it might be true and the universe where the island was destroyed is not meant to exist.
When Desmond shook Penny's hand (his constant) did the two Desmond's switch places or do they both now know what's going on? That's why he's looking for the manifest?
