Tested the wireless mouse theory already. Also went digging in the event viewer but I don't know where to look for this type of thing, and the feedback it gives for various things isn't usually very friendly anyway.
I've decided to just change the lid action to hibernate instead of sleep. The thing woke up on me again earlier this afternoon, but hibernate should fix it since it actually kills all power.
