I definately agree with the Beatles.. but maybe avoid the trippy stuff. Revovler is a best bet.

Simon and Garfunkel are some of my favourites too. I would also say stuff like some Metallica, Collective Soul, OLP but only Naveed, everything else from them sucks balls.

For an indie kick Stars or Broken Social Scene, maybe some Death Cab For Cutie.

Foo Fighters are a good bet, same with Pearl Jam and Nirvana (perhaps the Un-Plugged), Johhny Cash, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Dire Straights freakin rule, so do Fleetwood Mac..

What else.. Tool, Ben Folds, Beck, Cake, Deftones, Elliott Smith, Fatboy Slim, Zero 7, J5 of course, Massive Attack, Prodigy, NIN, Reel Big Fish (Cheer Up or earlier) , NOFX (punk in drublic), Goldfinger (Hang-Ups or ST)..
