As much as people want to blame a lack of money for the Blue Jays success, the Jays got themselves in more trouble when they increased their payroll. The payroll increase is why they signed BJ Ryan, why they paid Vernon Wells so much, why they signed Frank Thomas, why they gave Alex Rios such a lucrative extension.

For the Jays that hurt because you can't swallow those contracts so easily and go get a productive guy to replace the guy you get rid of. The Yankees and Red Sox can swallow one of those contracts if they have to.

There was an artical last year and the Blue Jays and Mariners had handed out more bad contracts than any other teams in Baseball.

I still watch because I enjoy watching Baseball. I think going to a live game at a ball park is a fun experience and really the game itself is almost secondary. Plus on any given day anything can happen in that sport. One day Adam Lind can go 5-5 with 3 home runs, or Marcum will take a no hitter into the 7th.
