I've had both recently at a Flames game (not the best indicator I know) and they are similar but certainly not the same. By similar, I mean neither are particularly unique. They are both a little bland and not particularly flavourful but that doesn't make them the same.

Canadian is closer to Kokanee than it is to RR.

Also, I hope you and your friend took that info with a grain of salt. You really think that they just add red food coloring? You are surely smarter than that.

As I said, one is a lager and one is an ale. They aren't even brewed the same way.

With similar ingredients they may taste vaguely similar but I assure you they aren't the same.
