First, it's called Shawarma KNIGHT (not "knights") and it is absolutely not connected in any way to the former Shawarma King. That place (the one on 14 St SW) was shut down for weeks a couple of years ago for horrific health code violations, including what one health inspector called the worst mouse infestation he'd ever seen at a restaurant, with mouse droppings everywhere- kitchen, storage, DINING ROOM, on TABLES... they closed and sold. Shawarma Knight is incomparably better. No relation and no contest.
If you like the way they do shawarma/donair/falafel at Knight (they take a split-in-half round pita, put it on top of a square flat "sheet" pita, and wrap it all up so it's perfect and not messy), the same procedure is at the new Pharaoh's Diner, which replaced the Falafel King at 16th Ave/9 St SW. Pharaoh's also makes its falafel fresh, to order, only place I'm aware of in Calgary that does that. Also, Pharaoh makes a combo of house-made picked cabbage with bits of pickled beet mixed in- IMO this is even better than pickled turnip.
Incidentally and on that note, the person who claimed that you can't get pickled turnip west of Montreal is nuts- every shawarma place in Ottawa and Toronto does it, and there are at least a few in Calgary that to. Also, there is no contest between Calgary and Vancouver in the shawarma front- Calgary absolutely trounces Vancouver. I did get the worst donair I have ever tasted in Vancouver, though, a place near the courts centre (Hornby?) that uses pre-packaged donair meat, TWO SLICES, and a stale cold whole-wheat (to make it worse) pita. You'd never see this sort of garbage sold as donair in Calgary.
