Brand loyalty isn't always about the best product/company or "winning" though. That's why we cheer for the Flames regardless of the stupid things the management sometimes does. It's about the trust you have for the brand that in the long run they are going to produce great products and services.

Also, brand loyalty and brand exclusivity are two totally different things. You can be loyal to multiple brands within the same category (two hockey teams or two computer makers). If you are loyal to a brand to the point of exclusivity then you're limiting yourself to a lot of great things out there.
