This is really a graphical representation about how google has botched the distribution. The simple fact that the Droid is doing as well as it is while the Nexus One is a very similar device shows me that it's not the fault of the device, but rather google.
There was a mashable article (
here) that outlines the problems with it, one being although you buy it unlocked, you're still locked to a carrier. The other problem (and the bigger one in my eyes) is that customer support sounds like a pain in the ass. At any time you may need to talk to the phone creator, the cellular company or google.
That along with the naming (android runs on droid but also other devices is confusing) really drives home what's been bugging me about google lately. Don't get me wrong, I love google but their approach to many things is very un-human. They develop these things (Wave, buzz) that make sense to them, but for the general public they just don't really work. Their explanation of these things is even worse. I can't remember the last video from them explaining one of their services that made any sense to me. In my eyes google is the nuclear physicist teaching grade 7 math ... they're just too advanced to deal with their audience properly.
