My PVR is a Pace Summit. No ammount of Googling has solved it, although I think using coax SPDIF instead of optical might do the trick.
1.3 and 1.4 use different connectors, so new TV = new cables.

Digital signal is on or off.. coaxial is used for analog signals because the signal transmits through the dielectric.
