The other alternative is to get a 3D bluray player with dual HDMI outputs. One will go directly to the TV, while the other will go to the receiver.

HDMI converges the Consumer Electronics market with the PC market. Introducing DisplayPort not only splits the PC market, it splits it off from Consumer Electronics. I don't like that.
I have a 3D-Ready TV. I'm not 100% sure sure how much compatibility it will have with 3D broadcasts (coming to Canada when?) or Blu-Ray. Right now my content all comes from my OC, and I haven't bought any field-sequential DVDs with 3D Blu-Ray coming out.
Not everyone will need a new 3D Blu-Ray. If your Blu-Ray player happens to be a PS3 it will update itself for 3D. Actually I'm reading now that any Blu-Ray player that can receive updates will be able to support at least half-resolution 3D, which is what my TV does anyways, so I'm thinking I'll be okay.
I'm not really an A/V guy, especially on the audio side. Tried hooking my HDPVR up to my Logitech Z-5500s, but couldn't get the audio to sync with the picture and went back to using my TV speakers.
I suspect I will need new glasses. My nVidias are locked to the PC. So I could throw a BR drive into my machine for 3D BR, or go for the PS3 and new glasses.
The one thing I won't be doing though is buying a new TV right away. I'll stick with the type of content I have if it comes to that, but I don't think it will.
