To simplify, the school board had three choices:
A - Allow her to bring a date, just like everyone else (non-discriminatory).
B - Cancel the prom to prevent a lesbian from attending with her date.
C - Prevent her from bringing a date to the prom, but let is proceed for everyone else.
B and C are blatantly discriminatory because she is a lesbian and her date would have been one too.
Not sure what part of this you don't understand. If there's proof that the prom was cancelled to prevent a lesbian from attending with a date, the civil rights lawyers are going to have a field day. And rightfully so.
