The way all of the Google empire works together perfectly is the best part of Android. Update your contacts, and it automatically syncs over the air with your Google Contacts, same with Google Calendar, etc. However, I'll try and choose my top 10 apps:
Games:
NESoid -definitely a must-download, even if for just showing off Android
Air Control -The only game I've actually bought the full version of
Robo Defense -great tower defense game, probably the next thing I'll buy the full version of
Age of Conquest -basically a GPS-based MMORPG
Solitaire -silly, but probably my most played game in reality, especially the 40 Thieves variation
Other apps:
Google Maps -obvious, turn-by-turn GPS directions, streetview
ASTRO File Manager -allows you to look at your phone's file system like the computer that it is
Battery Widget -simple, easy to read batter monitor
Twit.tv -Watch all of the Twit netcasts in beautiful quality and resolution
Shop Savvy -barcode scanner, I feel like I haven't used it as much as I should
