For me anyway Phx is great for a week or two, and may very well be where I spend my winters when I retire. However after spending what has amounted to almost 8 months down there now I have learned a few things over the trips.
Everyone knows about Phx positives, the weather (outside of May-August), great golfing, since they put together the ring roads it's not too bad to drive around town and great restaurants. All the things you'd want if you were there for a week.
However some negatives are that it's a mediocre sports town, the facilities are great, but whole idea of the football stadium and nhl rink in glendale is a joke. Many ppl there are fans of other teams as they came from the Mid west. There will be more Chicago fans at a cubs or blackhawks game than you could believe, so there's not a great deal of passion for the local teams. When the Cards made their run in 08 a pool company had to buy the last 1000 seats to allow for the game have the blackout lifted. An NFL team that can't sell out a playoff game? Not alot of arts and the culture I find to be very superficial. Something I'd fully expect in Vegas, but maybe nowhere else.
