As healthy as all this debate is, at least the government made the right choice and decided to leave the song alone.

I understand everyone wanting certain things changed, like people wanting God removed, womyn (remember,
real womyn don't need to spell their sex including the word "men") wanting equal representation, and whatever else someone might not like about the lyrics, and I'm glad we live in a country where all are free to voice their opinion on the subject. I'm also glad we didn't fall into the trap of changing a majestic and eloquent tribute to our country simply because of semantics. ( in this case )
For those who want to sing different words because you don't like the original ones, whatever. If you think you're proving a point then knock yourself out. I think it's stupid, and the people around you will probably just think you're an idiot who doesn't know the right words. The song is the song; if you're going to start changing it all around then you might as well just sing it to the tune of "O Christmas Tree" like the Americans do.
