I do agree that it wasn't necessarily the best movie. It was a lot of fun to watch, and it was one of the freshest feeling movies I've watched in a while.

As for the symbolism, it smacked you in the face so I'm not sure how it could be missed.
There are quite alot of people in the world that exist only in their own little bubble and have no idea of what is going on in the world around them.

I was having a conversation about District 9 with a guy and as I was talking about how the movie paralleled Apartheid , I was shocked when he didn't even know what I was talking about
