Sorry if I am going through what seems to be painfully obvious steps, I once drove 1/2 hr to a clients to 'fix' their 'broken' computer and all I had to do was turn the monitor on!
If your monitor doesn't work after all of this, either the monitor has died, or the video card had died. Can you test the monitor on another computer? Can you test another monitor on the computer in question? If you can you'll get a better idea where the problem lies.

I suppose that I should have mentioned that I have a laptop. There isn't much I can do unless I borrow a monitor but the power goes on, and nothing happens...
Sounds not nice so I'm just going to take it in for repairs. But if anybody has any suggestions let me know.
