Microsoft has made its living by ripping off technologies and crippiling support for far superior formats ie MP3, Java, AIFF and so on in favor of their own. AAC was created by Dolby. I think that they are pretty reputable as far as sound quality goes. If you want to see the new standard of audio and video, downlaod the new version of quicktime and watch the HD trailers on Apple's site with H.264 video and AAC sound. These take an extremly fast computer though.
BTW, Creative just shipped 3,700 players with a virus.
