M&Ms use a weird type of chocolate that somehow manages to taste gross. Smarties are made of delicious milk chocolate in a candy shell. I use to love sucking on them so the chocolate would melt, then I would split them in half and lick out the chocolate. Wow. I have not had smarties in a long time.
I have some friends in California, and I was floored to learn that they never heard of them. Then again, their grocery stores are filled with stuff we do not get up here. They had a whole aisle for twinkie-related junk food, and the superstore I go to has a shelf. (twinkies make me want to puke anyway) Not to mention all the different pops they get down there.
